materials that students will need to get started with the
lessons. Click here

#1
A PAIR OF
DRUMSTICKS - I recommend Vic Firth 5A sticks
with a wood tip, but any name brand stick is perfectly
fine. Some well known brands are Zildjian, Pro-Mark,
Regal Tip, Vater and Johnny Rabb. Avoid the store
brand sticks as these are usually reject sticks from the
stick companies and are often warped.
#2
A PRACTICE
PAD & A STAND - Practice pads come in all shapes
and sizes. I recommend the 12" Real Feel Pad by
HQ Percussion, but there are many others to choose
from. Buy the cheapest snare drum stand you can find
to use as a stand for your pad.
#3
A SPIRAL
BOUND MANUSCRIPT NOTEBOOK - For your lesson
assignments. This helps keep all your assignments in
one place.
#4
A
POCKET FOLDER - To keep loose papers and
handouts.
#5
SYNCOPATION
For the Modern Drummer by Ted Reed - One of the most
important drum books and a required book for my
lessons. This book is now published by Alfred
Publishing. There is a new version that includes a
CD that I recommend purchasing.
#7
A
METRONOME - I recommend purchasing a metronome that
has an earphone jack. The click of a metronome can
easily be overwhelmed by the volume of the drums. An
earphone comes in handy in this situation
*8
STICK
CONTROL by George Lawrence Stone - *FOR
INTERMEDIATE STUDENTS ONLY
