How Much Should I Practice?
Beginning students should practice about 30 minutes each day.  More advanced students should practice an hour a day or more.  Consistency is key.  It's better to practice 20 minutes a day for five days than cramming in two hours the night before your lesson.
Drums Too Loud?
Many drummers run into the same problem - they can't practice because the drums disturb their neighbors, roomates, parents etc.  There's no easy answer to this dilemma, but there are some solutions.  Try using "Sound Off" pads to muffle the drums.  Talk with your neighbors to find out if there might be a convenient time to practice when they won't be disturbed.  Electronic drums are also a solution, but a costly one unfortunately.
Do I Have To Be A Natural?
No you don't have to be a "natural".  If you were a natural you probably wouldn't need lessons!  It helps to have a sense of rhythm but studying and playing music is a life-enhancing activity that anyone can benefit from.  Most people can be as good as they want to be if they're willing to put in the hard work and have fun.
Can I Come Once A Month?
Generally the answer to this question is "no", but I will make exceptions for professional or advanced students and some other circumstances.  It's important for beginning students to be consistent with their studies, therefore children and beginning students should have weekly lessons.

Q Where is your studio located?.
A As of 7-9-07 we are now located at Boocoo - 1823 Church St. in Evanston (the corner of Church & Dodge).
Q How much are the lessons?
A Lessons are $25/half hour and $50/hour.  Payments are made on a monthly basis on the first lesson of the month.
Q Do you teach beginners?
A Yes!  I teach all levels from absolute beginners to seasoned pros.  Generally I don't take kids under the age of seven, however I will make some exceptions based on the individual child.
Q How long are the lessons?  How often are the lessons?
A For beginners the lessons are once a week for a half-hour.  For advanced students and some adults, the lessons are for one hour once a week.
Q Do I have to commit to lessons or can I just try one?
A The first lesson is an introductory lesson.  I will assess the student's level and we will go over some of the fundamentals of drumming - the grip, the stroke, basic reading, the single stroke roll etc.  We can chat and get to know each other a little bit.  The student can then decide whether or not  they would like to continue and can inform me at the end of the lesson, or go home and think it over for a little bit, then get back to me.  If the student decides to continue, we will then set up a weekly lesson time.  There is no pressure and no strings attached.
Q What hours do you teach?
A Lesson hours vary based on availability.   I will do my best to set up a time that is convenient for you.  Just give me a call or email.
Q Do I have to have a drum set to start lessons?  If not, what do I need?
A You do NOT need a drum set to start taking lessons.  The only requirements to start lessons is to purchase a practice pad, a pair of sticks, and one or two books.  I do not recommend rushing out to buy a drum set.   The student should become familiar with the fundamental techniques of drumming before making the investment in a set of drums.
Q I'm an advanced or professional drummer can you help me improve my skills?
A Are you a Rock drummer that wants to learn how to play Jazz, or improve your 4-way coordination?  Do you want to learn how to solo and improvise?  Are you interested in improving your time feel and learning to play other styles like Afro-Cuban, Reggae, Soca, Brazilian etc?  I can help you expand your horizons and hone your skills.
Q Do you teach other percussion instruments like congas, djembe, mallets etc.?
A  I currently do NOT teach hand percussion lessons or mallets.
Q Do you sell or repair instruments?
A I do NOT sell or repair instruments.
